Acoustic Panel Student Grant
In pursuit of my Distinction in Music, I submitted a proposal to the North Yarmouth Academy Parents' Association regarding the school's gymnasium. Because speeches and most music performances are held in the gym, I felt that the sound quality of the gym was inadequate for this additional purpose other than basketball and volleyball. Therefore I wrote a student grant including plans to build 24 acoustic panels. The grant was approved, and I spent several months working on measuring the gym, budgeting materials, building the panels, and undergoing fire inspection. In August of 2017, the panels were all built and ready for installation, however, the fire inspection came back negatory due to the lack of a sprinkler system in the gymnasium. The project is currently being reevaluated as to how it can move forward. The current consensus, as of October 2017, is to build a sprinkler system in the gym in order to install the panels.
