Southern Arkansas University (SAU) Pre-health Professions Club (PHC) Outreach Program dissemination of health information at Ivory Primary Elementary was a great success. The elementary school located in Ouachita County had a two-day event organized and coordinated by the PHC Outreach Officer Michael Angelo Perez. Dates of the event are Tuesday and Thursday, November 13th and15th of Fall 2018. The event delivers essential health hygiene education to 22 classrooms reaching over 440 children. - With the participation of Ivory Primary's Nurse, Stephanie Monden, classrooms and times for presentations moved seamlessly. Tuesday, PHC Outreach program presenters Melanie Joan, Ashley Johnson, and Michael Angelo Perez engaged approximately 200 students in 10 classrooms. Thursday, Ashley Stewart and Michael Angelo Perez presented to approximately 240 students in 12 classrooms. - Dispensed to the children were the generous donations from Everett Randy P DDS located in Camden Arkansas and donations from Smiles of Arkansas Dental Center located in Magnolia. Donations included tubes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, and cups needed for proper dental care. Wayne Bradshaw, the Principal of Ivory Primary, was an important part in ensuring that there was communication between Southern Arkansas University Pre-health Professions club and the Nursing staff. - The presentations by the PHC members were personalized and age appropriate. All PHC members have excellent presentation skills, and their valuable participation is much appreciated. Photographs were taken and provided to SAU PHC by Kimberly Finn from Ivory Primary who has recorded the event on their facebook page. - The Pre-Health Club is a student organization within the College of Science and Technology for SAU students interested in health-related professions. Working closely with the Pre-Health Advising Committee and faculty advisors, the club sponsors ongoing activities including a speaker seminar series and provides valuable information about the different prehealth programs available from veterinary medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, and pharmacy schools. The Pre-Health Club also offers prep materials for preprofessional tests, such as the MCAT. - Michael Angelo Perez is the SAU Pre-health Professions Outreach Officer for Fall 2018. Outreach Officer responsibilities include educational and health-related outreach at elementary and high schools. Creating and maintaining social networks to help facilitate future events and encourage donations to disseminate during presentations. Outreach Officer must also manage student helpers for SAU Science Open House activities. -
