Michelle Bard

Majored in Heritage Preservation
Georgia State University, Class of 2022
From Alpharetta, GA
An Atlanta native for my entire life, I earned Bachelor Degrees in History and Art History from Georgia State University with the goal of pursuing museum work. As an Undergraduate, I interned at the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington London. Following graduation, I worked at the Atlanta History Center for 3 years as the Executive Administrative Assistant where I managed the Executive Offices for the CEO and COO. After leaving The History Center to raise my two children, I worked as a substitute teacher and continue to volunteer as a Girl Scout Leader. As a Graduate Student at Georgia State University, I interned with the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and the Urban Design Commission. I have further developed my skills in research while learning the new digital documenting technologies that have developed in Historic Preservation over the last two decades.

Fallwater Object Documentation
As part of a team of four from GSU, I worked to document multiple decorative objects in Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous Falling Water house. Objects were documented using structure from motion and laser scanning with the goal for 3-D models to be developed in the future.

Structure from Motion
As a class assignment for Photogrammetry, I took pictures of multiple headstones at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta. Moving around each stone, I took pictures from many different angels. All images were processed in Agisoft Metashape where I then built 3-D Models of each stone.

Terrestrial Laser Scanning
For the Terrestrial Laser Scanning project, a class from Georgia State University journeyed down to Monticello, Georgia with the intent of documenting Hopewell Baptist Church. The abandoned church building was constructed in the latter half of the 19th Century and was showing much damage and age. The aim of the project was to use laser scanning technology to create a record of the church structure as it stands. The class of students took it in turn to operate the scanner. In that way, the interior and exterior of Hopewell was documented. The resulting information was then taken and processed in a university computer lab with the end result being the creation of 3D point cloud models of the building. While the students worked together in the scanning stage of the project, each created their own 3D models using the software, JRC Reconstructor.
