Michalena Mezzopera will graduate in May from John Carroll University, located in Cleveland, Ohio, with a BA in Adolescent/Young Adult Education, a BA in English, and her Ohio 7-12 teaching license. She is currently student teaching for 9th and 11th graders at Beachwood High School. A focus of her teaching is helping her students prepare for, and pass, their upcoming AIR assessments. Michalena has experience working with urban students in the juvenile justice system, via a creative writing program she co-founded at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center, Writers in Residence, which seeks to reduce recidivism within the system. Michalena is a strong believer in the therapy and power that words can provide, whether it's through reading, writing, or listening, or through drawing, painting, or sculpting, and would like to bring this passion to high schools. She is creative, dedicated, innovative, and effective at resolving conflicts. She is flexible, versatile, and skilled at maintaining a sense of humor under pressure. Helping people reach their fullest potentials is her biggest passion. Michalena is currently seeking a job for the upcoming school year as an English Language Arts teacher or in an English related field.
