Nigel St. Jean

Majoring in Environmental And Sustainability Studies And Environmental Engineering
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Class of 2026
From North Brunswick, New Jersey
I hope to help create a world that works for everyone. I believe with a growth mindset, servant leadership, and development in our global sense of community we can achieve that goal. I have decided to pursue two majors directly correlated to sustainability because I am deeply enthusiastic about sustainability. I will graduate in 2026 with a BS in Environmental Engineering and a BA in Environmental and Sustainability Studies, and a humanities depth in philosophy. With that education I hope to work for an organization, private or national, where I can help transform this country from one reliant on anachronistic and pernicious methods to one where sustainability, feasibility, economics, and people are all in scope. An engineering degree's value cannot be understated as it displays your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, even outside the realm of the major. I have managed to climb the curve going from struggling to excelling in the rigorous engineering courses of WPI. I overcame initial challenges with math and excelled in advanced calculus and differential equations courses. I acquired proficiency in lab techniques such as titration, chromatography, and hydrolysis through chemistry coursework. I am a key member in the school's environmental club (the WPI Green Team), a violinist in the school orchestra, a fitness fanatic, and an appreciator of the arts. I was recently appointed as the subcommittee chair of the Green Teams new subcommittee, education and outreach, and I hope to increase community engagement initiatives in Worcester and become ambassadors of awareness and environmental education. I got certified in CAD and designed a 3D to-scale viola for my final project. I enjoy hiking and being outdoors, I have way too many plants in my room. I have accumulated interpersonal experiences since the age of sixteen, demonstrating my ability to unite teams and achieve shared objectives. I spent many weekends in bustling restaurants interacting with different people and orchestrating the flow of the restaurant. I worked as an administrative assistant for a new franchise during the summer of 2023 and learned how to organize files, staff information, and various forms of sensitive data boosting the efficiency of the company. I am actively seeking opportunities to collaborate with like-minded professionals and organizations committed to environmental stewardship and community development. Let us connect and explore how we can work together to make a positive impact. Feel free to reach out, I am excited to discuss potential partnerships and projects!

Human Nature Projects United States
HNP USA is a branch of the global HNP non-profit organization that is currently in the process of being founded in the United States. This is not related to school, but I thought I'd throw it in as well. At HNP we focus on combining human experiences and passion for nature/animals/environmentalism. We held our first in person event in late April just before the 2023-2024 school year ended.

I work on the sustainability strategy team at Schneider Electric (SE). On that team I have learned how to navigate using the agile process, I become proficient in many eco-design concepts and methodologies, and I have worked closely with B&E engineer and technical manager to run eco-design workshops.
