Ninos P. Malek is a tenured Professor of Economics at De Anza College (Cupertino, California) and Senior Lecturer at San Jose State University. He also taught Economics/Government and Advanced Placement Economics at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California for fourteen years.
He started his teaching career at the high school level in 1998 and then became a faculty member at both San Jose State University and De Anza College in Fall 1999. He taught at three institutions simultaneously until he was hired by De Anza College as a full-time professor in 2014. He earned tenure in 2018.
He earned his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from San Jose State University and a Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University.
Dr. Malek has been recognized for his teaching excellence at both the high school and college level. He placed second in the 2008 international "Economics Communicators Contest" sponsored by the Association of Private Enterprise Education. He was a Finalist for the Pearson Education "Excellence in Higher Education Award." In addition, he is the recipient of the San Jose State University College of Social Sciences "Teaching Excellence Award" and the San Jose State University "Outstanding Lecturer Award."
Dr. Malek is a national and international economics education speaker. He has spoken at the Nixon Presidential Library and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. He has led several educator and student (high school and university) workshops for various organizations including:

Dr. Malek has multiple publications in peer-reviewed economics education journals and popular press outlets including Newsweek and The Mercury News.
Dr. Malek is a first-generation American of both Assyrian and Hispanic background (father was an Assyrian from Iran and mother was from Ecuador, South America). He speaks English, Assyrian, Spanish and some Italian.
