Upper Iowa University, Class of 2019
I am a mother of 3 children and have 3 stepchildren. We are a very close family and love being together as much as possible. My husband is retired military and currently works as a Paramedic. My mother and father were both in the Air Force and served during Vietnam. My mother was a preschool teacher and father was police officer and they are both now retired.
I was trained as an EMT when I was 18 and while I continued my education to become a nurse I was a domestic violence and sexual assault advocate. I then worked as an LPN in a busy urgent care with very intelligent physicians as I continued to work on my Associates Degree in Nursing. Once obtaining my RN I worked inpatient Psychiatric and Detox unit and then started working in the Emergency Department as well. I was able to get training through my job to become a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner during this time. I continued to grow and became a Mental Health Case Manager in an outpatient clinic for the VAMC. I continued to also work the Emergency Department and chose to work there full times as the House Supervisor/Outpatient resource nurse. I then chose to work 2 full time jobs as the House Supervisor/Outpatient resources nurse during the week and on the weekends I worked as the on call hospice nurse in my community. I have now chosen to return to school and increase my knowledge by getting my BSN and Criminal Justice Degree. I currently work in the Emergency Department part time. I will also start full time teaching beginning healthcare education to high school students via Hawkeye Community College courses this fall.
Live until you die.
