Rachel Mooney

I am currently a sophomore in the Lewis Honors College and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Kentucky. I am working towards a dual degree in Neuroscience and Spanish Language on the pre-medical track. During the summer of 2018 I participated in the Atlantis Project in Lisbon, Portugal. Through this program I was able to shadow physicians of different specialties and expand my knowledge on the European healthcare system. Because of the language barrier I was able to strengthen my communication skills and observe the similarities and differences between Spanish and Portuguese. Outside of my time as a student I work as an undergraduate research assistant in an Alzheimer's research lab and as a Patient Clerical Assistant at the University of Kentucky Hospital. Through these jobs I am able to strengthen my communication skills and work cohesively with other team members. I also participate in the 24 hour no sitting no sleeping marathon where we raise funds towards researching for a cure for pediatric cancer and stand for those who cannot. Through DanceBlue I am an Adopt-a-Family chair for DanceBlue through which I cultivate a relationship with a family whose child is receiving treatment for cancer at the DanceBlue clinic. As a student, employee, and a dedicated member of the DanceBlue family I aspire to be the most successful version of myself.
