Rainey St. Laurent

Id like to introduce myself, my name is Rainey St. Laurent and I am a sculptor, writer, and multimedia artist. I am currently an undergrad student as a Studio Art Major at Fort Lewis College located in Durango, Colorado, and anticipating receiving my bachelor's degree in Spring 2022. I enjoy hiking in the mountains with my pup, Drogo (aka my best friend), snowboarding, and working with artists in the community. I grew up in Houston, TX where diversity thrives and was always meeting a variety of people with different backgrounds, beliefs, and ideas that have inspired me to explore ideas of consciousness, perspective, and relationships among people. I grew up dancing the majority of my life which has overlapped into my understanding of the human body's limits, movement, team-based work, and performance. I am working my way to becoming an established multimedia artist with an interest in sculpture, film, performance, and installations. Set on making the most of opportunities, my goals involve engaging with the communities of artists across the U.S. from diverse backgrounds and continuing to expand, learn, and grow as a young artist. My works derive from my personal experiences, experimentation, art history, current events, and films that have been the source of content for my art. My artworks typically involving ideas around the human figure, challenging social constructions, unpredicted human behavior, sci-fi fantasy creatures, geology, violence, and mental illness. I plan to travel and live in different locations throughout my life to pursue my interest in cultural and geological differences in different locations and connect and work with artists everywhere.
