Rebecca Hagen Watson received her B.M. in Bassoon Performance from the University of Minnesota, studying with John Miller and Norbert Nielubowski. She attended the Sarasota music festival, and was a finalist for the New World Symphony and Tanglewood. She then attended the European Mozart Academy in Poland, and worked with renowned international soloists such as Aurele Nicolet, Ingo Goritzki, and Michel Lethiec.  She continued her studies at the Folkwang Musikhochschule Essen, and at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule, Duesseldorf, in Germany, studying with Gustavo Nunez, the Principal Bassoon of the Royal Concertgebouw Orkester in Amsterdam. She received her Master’s degree with the highest honors in 2001. She held the position of Bassoonist and Contrabassoonist of the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, Germany for 8 years, and had the opportunity to regularly perform with great orchestras such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Suedwest Rundfunk and Saarlaendische Rundfunk Orchestras, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the Mainzer Stadttheater, among others. In 2008, she returned to Texas to continue her studies, and was awarded the position of Adjunct Professor of Bassoon at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is currently the Principal Bassoon of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra in Texas, and is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Arizona.
