Lauren Stone was recognized for studying abroad

I recently returned from a trip to Hopkins, Belize where Julia DeVane and I were fortunate enough to research tourism's impact on the Garifuna people who live there with our professor, Dr. Daria. This unforgettable experience gave both of us the chance to conduct ethnographic research abroad and taught us skills such as creating rapport among people within a small time frame. We met many new friends while learning about Garifuna culture and how it has changed over time. Over the semester we will be writing our ethnography depicting how tourism within Hopkins affects the culture of the Garifuna people, their environment, and the monetary power dynamics found between the two groups.

Presenting at Posters at the Georgia State Capitol: I was selected as 1 of 4 students from Georgia College & State University to present my poster presentation at the state's Capitol Building. The project focused on how refugees in Clarkston, GA used green spaces to create a sense of home, helping them leave liminality.

GC Shelter Buddies

The purpose of the GC Shelter Buddies shall be to advocate and practice volunteerism in various ways to assist local animal shelters. Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with animals and their admirers in a friendly and welcoming environment. In addition to promoting volunteerism, the GC Shelter Buddies will strive to raise funds and awareness for the assistance of local shelters.
