Apply herbicide in different concentrations and by various methods depending on target species. Clear invasive trees and shrubs through use of brushcutters, chainsaws, and hand tools. Utilize various ATV’s to assist in planting and invasive species removal. Use trailers to transport ATV’s to worksites. Clean and maintain all equipment. Collect, clean and stratify plant seed. Assemble and disperse seed mixes. Propagate native plants in a greenhouse by using proper soil mixtures and transplanting techniques. Provide and maintain a suitable habitat for plants in the greenhouse by setting the thermostat, setting the timer for the irrigation system, build and maintain benches, drain well and irrigation system for the winter months, clean and maintain plant bins, and weeding. Install plants in appropriate micro-habitat. Assess potential restoration sites through a multitude of tasks which include; run and mark transects, install and monitor wells, GPS and measure ditches, survey herbaceous vegetation, survey trees and shrubs, collect and process soil samples for use in seed bank analysis, collect and process soil core samples to determine soil make-up, collect and process tree cores to determine tree age, use laser based survey equipment to determine topography, and conduct a bird survey. Prepare specimens for a working herbarium and utilize literary references to confirm proper nomenclature. Map areas for potential contract work and note species presence and recommended treatment method. Construct spillways. Lead groups in various restoration activities including clearing brush, installing plants, and trail making to be used for herbicide application. Train new hires.
