Role: Director of Social Outreach [as of Spring 2019] Responsibilities: - Help strengthen connections between Hamilton College and surrounding communities including the Clinton School District. - Plan and organize events in which Hamilton students collaborate with and learn from surrounding communities. - Establish programs that connect SPS to the broader Hamilton community and alumni network. Key Programs: - Saturday Phor Science (Students from the Clinton Middle School have the opportunity to present their Science Fair research on the Hill in exchange for learning about Hamilton scientific research and an afternoon of fun, space balloon-related activities. This event also allows Hamilton students to not only present their research in a straightforward manner, but also learn how to work with children.) - Judging of the Clinton Science Fair - Teaching Opportunities (Organizing opportunities for Hamilton College Students to teach Clinton students about science. Most recently, a group of sophomore physics students had the opportunity to teach the sixth grade Clinton science students about light.) - Senior Networking Brunch (To thank the physics seniors for all of the help and support they've offered during their time at Hamilton; to create an opportunity for underclassmen to connect with the seniors on LinkedIn; to allow underclassmen to have an idea of potential paths through the physics major and beyond.) Additionally, the launching of Hamilton College's first Space Balloon in Fall 2018 was a major accomplishment of the club, and everyone involved at the time; every club member had been instrumental in the launch, and will be instrumental in each launch prep and physical launch in the future.
