Shannon Smith is a developing musician of over 10 years from Flanders, New Jersey. She went to Mount Olive High School where she played flute and tuba as a member and leader of numerous ensembles. Additionally, upon graduating she became a staff member for the Mount Olive Marching Band where she teaches brass and conducting students. Smith was an ensemble cast member of the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show with Bruno Mars. She is a recipient of several awards including the prestigious John Philip Sousa Band Award. She has previously studied music therapy and music education at Radford University. At Radford, Smith played tuba in the University Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Brass Ensemble, Uber Tubers tuba ensemble and Red Alert Pep Band. In 2018, she marched tuba with the Open Class Finalist, Legends Drum and Bugle Corps. Currently, she is a sophomore instrumental music education major with a minor in music and human services at James Madison University. Smith plays tuba with the Marching Royal Dukes, Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, University Concert Band and Pep Band. She credits her successes under the learning of Kevin Stees, Dayl Burnett, Darrel Hendricks and others.
