Shawn Turner

I am currently a Paraeducator/PCA/Classroom Monitor. I work for Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit 9, and I am assigned to a high school Life Skills classroom in the Coudersport Area School District. This is my fifth year working for IU9. When I first started, I was a substitute para and then in 2021, I was hired full-time in an intensive Emotional Support classroom which is where I am hoping to end up once I complete my degree. I have recently taken a training course to be a classroom monitor which allows me to substitute teachers, so on the days I am substituting I am reinforcing what the regular teacher has already instructed the students. I chose to go into the education field, to begin with as it allowed me the flexibility that I needed at the time of my initial hire. Originally this was going to be a temporary thing until I had other personal matters managed but the longer, I worked the more I enjoyed it, and I was able to obtain my associate in education through PSEA. I had a wonderful support system where I was working, and they encouraged me to continue to get my bachelors so that is why I am here today.
