Simone Robinson

I am a first-generation American of Jamaican descent, the oldest daughter of an MSW degree-holding mother of two, and a proud older sister to a Navy hospital corpsman. I live with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, BPD, and depression. +++ My passion for the way humans interact and react has both plagued and intrigued me since my elementary school days. I would write poetry on the matters of social interaction and read collegiate-level literature. While I understand the exhaustion of being in a persistent state of emotional pain, I advocate for suicide prevention and seeking professional help for others. During my junior year at UAH, I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. This chronic disorder mimics the symptoms of brain cancer with a tumor being present. The actual diagnosis made me chuckle, but it was all very disheartening. I had recently been admitted to a great school, elected Service Chair of CKI at UAH, and was excited about my future. But, life goes on. +++ During fall 2017 I moved to Georgia with my mom as she began her new journey as a Fulton County social worker. I spent two years trying to gather myself and reach a decent level of health. Many trials and tribulations continue; however, I am now a proud GSU student and intend to make the very best of the gracious opportunity awarded to me by GSU. I truly appreciate having been accepted into this remarkable institution.
