Faculty advisor: Mrs. Molly Wilkens-Reed Through my Survey of Western Music class, I analyzed the progression of music notation in Western society and cultures around the globe to present an overview of its evolution and determine differences between cultures that make a universal notation system challenging. I presented at the Phi Alpha Theta Conference hosted by Liberty University.

Faculty advisor: Mrs. Michelle Douglass (Central Virginia Governor’s School) With four other students, I researched the Zaire Ebola virus outbreak in Africa and used a mathematical model to predict the effects of interventions such as isolation and increased access to medications and personal protective equipment on the outbreak in Liberia. We were able to utilize the Python libraries NumPy and matplotlib to graphically display these effects. We presented at Lynchburg College.

Faculty advisor: Mrs. Michele Coghill (Central Virginia Governor’s School) The purpose of my research was to determine if certain mnemonics are better suited for students based on personality in order to improve teaching techniques and personal study habits for individual students. I conducted my study at a local high school and divided 15 students into three groups to learn vocabulary and lists: one using personal techniques, one using verbal mnemonics, and one using visual mnemonics. I then ran statistical tests between their test results and personality type to determine if there was a correlation. I won 1st Place in Psychology B at the Virginia Junior Academy of Science.
