As a kid, I used to take things apart, but rather than put back together as they were, I would rearrange the pieces to create something entirely new. Not much has changed since then.
Growing up during the internet boom inspired me to see things not as they are but as they could be. As a teenager in this vast digital world, I brought myself to proficiency in HTML coding, video editing, music production, and freelance graphic design. That was only the tip of the iceberg. Years after drafting my first college admission essay on a cell phone, I was drafting yet another, this time for Georgia Tech. It was there at the top Industrial Engineering program of the nation where I discovered my most notable use of technology; a tool for problem solving.
For me, it was always the problem of innovation. During my work at Equifax as a Systems Analyst, my colleagues and I were revolutionizing a fundamental component of the trade: execution of data models. We introduced a new method allowing new advanced analytical opportunities, reducing deployment time from months to days, and saving up to hundreds of thousands of dollars yearly. I later improved it even further to work four times faster using half the resources as described by my colleague below.
I got a chance to look at the performance improvement that [Steven has] achieved . That is really awesome work. There was never a requirement given to [him] to make it better. However, [he] exceeded the expectation and did find a way to improve performance. - Sudhakar Kanagavel, Senior Program Manager, US Commercial Services, Equifax
Today, I continue to envision beyond expectation and seek to join others in innovation, regardless of the medium. I am inspired by likeminded individuals such as W. Edwards Deming, Eric Reis, Peter Drucker, Daniel Pink, Jeff Sutherland and companies such as Toyota and Netflix. Together we may take things apart from what they currently are and rearrange them to create something entirely new.
