The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a competitive summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions. SHPEPs goal is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students underrepresented in the health professions and prepare them for a successful application and matriculation to health professions schools.

Serve as an energetic and enthusiastic volunteer to help first-year students succeed at the University of Iowa Develop and maintain relationships with and provide assistance and support for first-year students (focus on a smooth transition, acclimation, and a sense of belonging) Serve as a resource for students new to the College Help facilitate and encourage attendance to all University of Iowa programs Participate in training, programs, and activities Attend group meetings Serve as a positive role model

The laboratory studies transcriptional processes that are disrupted in disease. The lab has identified a novel transcriptional signaling pathway in the heart that mediates the hearts ability to regulate whole body metabolism. Through a combination of pharmacological and genetic gain and loss-of-function studies in mice, the lab found that the heart is capable of regulating whole body metabolism through a mechanism that is governed by MED13 and miR-208a.

Provides patients' personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths. Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals. Provides adjunct care by administering enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths; applying restraints. Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; testing urine; recording intake and output information. Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient to nursing supervisor.

To build young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry (in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach) while serving as a spiritual leader and role model.
