Taylor Jackson of Chesapeake Beach, MD, was awarded a Tower Award for Academic Excellence for achieving a 3.15 GPA or higher during her first-year at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Since 1995, the Tower Awards have celebrated the academic achievements of historically underrepresented students at Georgia Tech. Tower awards recognize the academic success and performance of students across the entire matriculation cycle for all classifications and major. Award categories included Ph.D. Awards, Masters Awards (graduating GPA of 3.5 or higher), Graduating Senior Awards (cumulative GPA of 3.15 or higher), Sustained Awards (cumulative GPA of 3.15 or higher), Yearly Awards (GPA of 3.15 or higher over the past three semesters), and First-Year Awards (cumulative GPA of 3.15 or higher). Within each award category, except the Ph.D. and Masters Awards, sub-categories included Bronze (GPA of 3.15-3.49), Silver (GPA of 3.50-3.94), and Gold (GPA of 3.95 or higher). Taylor earned The First-Year award in the Silver sub-category.

Lockheed Martin is focused on growing and inspiring the next generation of diverse STEM talent. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.
