Religiosity and psychological health: Is there a correlation?
I conducted statistical analyses of data, relevant research, and wrote a paper as an undergrad that was soon accepted after an intense peer-review. My article was published in SN Social Sciences professional journal.
Abstract
This research surrounds the hypothesis that possessing a high level of religiosity is positively correlated to mental health. The research question of “Does possessing a high level of religiosity correlate to the individual’s psychological health?” is approached. Correlations between religiosity and psychological health were examined by analyzation of the data tabulated from a series of surveys administered to Florida Institute of Technology university students. The dependent variable of Religiosity was measured via the Intrinsic, Extrinsic, Quest Religiosity Measures, or IEQ, and also Duke University Religion Index or DUREL; the independent variables related to psychological health were measured using Lifestyle and Habits Questionnaire-Brief (LHQ-B). Due to the fact that there were four separate measures of religiosity in the dataset, each facet of religiosity may or may not reflect a correlation with psychological health. After statistical analyses of the provided data, the findings suggest that extrinsic religiosity and Quest (mystic) religiosity are not significantly correlated with psychological health, while intrinsic and DUREL religiosity do reflect a statistically significant correlation to psychological health.
