An Operations Specialist (OS) in the Navy performs a variety of duties, including:
Plotting: Plotting a ship's position, heading, and speed
Operating equipment: Operating radar, navigation, and communications equipment in the ship's Combat Information Center
(CIC)
Tracking: Detecting and tracking ships, aircraft, and missiles
Advising: Advising on shipboard warfare operations and navigation
Interpreting: Interpreting and evaluating radar presentations and tactical situations
Recommending: Making recommendations to senior leadership
Displaying: Displaying and disseminating tactical information
OSs typically work in a clean, air-conditioned electronic equipment space or computer room. They often work as part of a team, but may also work on individual projects. Their work is mostly mental analysis and problem solving.
