I am a senior majoring in Biology at the University of Central Florida with future academic goals of becoming a physician. I grew up in Sarasota, Florida and attended Pine View School for the Gifted from second through twelfth grade. My interests include playing golf, basketball, working out, and spending time with my family and friends. I have worked as an Organic Chemistry tutor, Peer Mentor, Undergraduate Teaching Assistants, COMPASS Mentor, Summer Research Teaching Assistant/Mentor and a National Science Foundation Camp Yes Research Scholar while working in a Microbiology lab at the University of Central Florida.

Andrew Dakkak was recognized for earning an academic award
In the summer of 2015, I was selected as the recipient of the Distinguished Undergraduate Researcher Award. This was truly a special honor to receive, and one that has come as a result of my commitment to research. In addition to being a National Science Foundation Scholar, I have been a summer research academy scholar, and more recently a summer research academy undergraduate teaching assistant.

I have been the two time recipient of a Student Government Association tutor scholarship. I have served as a tutor for the University since the fall of 2013, and still work there until this day. The subjects I have tutored include Organic Chemistry I & II and General Chemistry I. My recent promotion this past spring within the office to becoming a peer mentor has been a humbling opportunity for myself, and one that I have greatly enjoyed.

I am a teaching assistant for genetics, molecular cell biology, and embryology. My responsibilities include assistant the professor during laboratory times, grading and proctoring exams, and having office hours while updating students on new course information.

I work as a COMPASS mentor for the University of Central Florida, where my responsibilities include familiarizing students with STEM majors, developing their study habits, provide opportunities for students to network, and exposing them to the opportunities that the University presents their students.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at University of Central Florida
I worked for the Summer Research Academy this past summer as an undergraduate teaching assistant/Mentor. As a mentor my responsibilities included familiarizing ten undergraduates with the research programs my institution offers, searching and annotating scientific literature, creating academic resumes and emails, and co-leading a workshop for pre professional students.

Tutor and Peer Mentor at Student Academic Resource Center
I have served as an organic chemistry tutor at the Student Academic Resource Center since the Fall of 2013. I have filled in for physics sessions and general chemistry sessions when the tutors in those respective subjects could not attend their sessions. I have recently been promoted to not only serve as a tutor, but as a Peer Mentor as well. I am College Reading Learning Association Level I certified. As a mentor, I go to watch other tutors sessions and give them feedback on what they are doing well and areas they should look to improve on when they are tutoring.
