Associate Director at Diocese of San Bernardino
What is Restorative Justice (RJ)? It is bringing hope to those who have lost direction in their lives. RJ repairs what has been affected by crime, it is a chance to encounter Christ through others experiences, and it is transformation of the person and their lifestyle. This office ministers to those affected by the criminal justice system: victims, offenders, and the families of both. We provide education on Restorative Justice to the parishes; such as, specialization training and Panel Presentations with discussions with victims, offenders, and families. We promote, and advocate for laws that help to bring about true healing for everyone. We offer direct service in the form of retreat days, support groups and prayer vigils for those who have lost a loved one to violent death, as well as training for parish leaders and volunteers who minister to families and survivors of murder victims. We offer a detention ministry where we visit those who are incarcerated. We provide a healing presence as well as opportunities to participate in faith sharing groups and the celebration of liturgies. We recruit, train, and supervise Catholic volunteers who go into 28 detention centers in our Diocese. For families, we support Get on the Bus, a program that reunites children with their incarcerated parents and strengthens their relationships. We now provide, Bridges, a Re-entry Mentor program that supports the incarcerated once they are released from jails or prisons. We collaborate with government leaders and interfaith leaders hosting advocacy walks in the community to bring awareness to end gun violence and provide resources to help keep our communities safe. I also am certified in Pastoral Counseling which offers spiritual, practical and professional experience in ministry and for those in need of emotional care.
