Alison Martinez
"So let us wage a global struggle against illiteracy, poverty, and terrorism, and let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons.
Malala Yousafzai
I am currently studying Sociology with a minor in Public Policy at the University at Albany with a strong passion for education. I have worked with programs such as College Confident that has helped inner-city youths like myself and many others realize the importance of going to college. After I graduated high school in 2015, that summer I interned for the New York Administration for Children Services. I also returned to my former High School in the fall during my breaks to mentor current seniors on how to create a resume, edit their college essays and how to know which college is the best fit for them. Through this experience, I learned the importance of how compassion can truly change ones life.
Through my educational and entrepreneurial experience, eventually, in the future, I want to create a foundation mentoring inner-city youths stressing the importance of education and providing them with the tools they need in order to rise above their circumstances.
