Through the Opera Program at Miami University, I am the main-stage stage manager, something almost unheard of during a student’s freshman year. I am in charge of the entirety of scheduling of the rehearsal calendar, coordination of that schedule with performers, paperwork for agreements with other members of the production team, such as the costume designer, lighting designer, building managers, set constructers and designers, conductors, and producers. I also attend and take notes on every rehearsal. I then take charge of the entire production during “technical week”, ensuring that everything is done correctly and all aspects of the production are done professionally and well. I then “call” the show, which entails announcing every single lighting cue, sound cue, entrance, microphone cue, and stage crew action for my assistants to carry out in perfect timing. The program has asked me to manage each opera production until my graduation from Miami University.
