Amy Roden

My name is Amy Roden and I am a Nurse Practitioner on a remote workplace clinic for oil and gas construction. I started my career in 1993 as a Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) as a graduate nurse. I was chosen as part of a new program to mentor new graduates into the CSICU. From this experience, I gained knowledge and experience which guided me in my career. I saw my first helicopter during this time and knew I wanted to be a flight nurse. I spent 17 years as a full-time flight nurse, paramedic, and Emergency Department/ICU nurse. I continue to volunteer at my local fire department as a paramedic when I am available. An ED physician and owner of the company providing ED services to our local hospital asked me to go back to school for my nurse practitioner, which I did. I worked with his group for several years, flew as a flight nurse, taught at a local nursing school, and then was asked to cover at a remote worksite with the oil and gas construction workers. This position, not a position I was looking for or thought I would focus my career on, has now become my only job and a job I love. I worked with the construction company as an independent contractor. From this job, I was asked to start a company to provide services to the industry and to create better care and access to services. I am currently running the onsite workplace company and providing service to many individuals at the worksite. I see a need in the industry and "our people" are the reason I have returned to complete my doctorate. I want to learn, change the industry, and make healthcare better for our people. I have a true belief my growth and learning can make a difference for so many, the people I care for. I am a mother to three beautiful boys. I try to set an example for them with everything I do.
