My internship coincided with the hire of a group of new Underwriters, so for the first 5 weeks of the program I was able to accompany the new Underwriters as they were trained in how to Underwrite Group Dental and Vision insurance. After that I was assigned a project: to analyze the persistency of business clients. I was tasked to analyze and understand patterns in why businesses either renew or do not renew their group benefits with Guardian. I conducted a thorough analysis using programs such as Excel and Minitab and using Statistical modeling techniques such as the Binary Logistic Regression. At the end of the program I presented the results of my project to upper level management. Throughout the summer I was able to meet with and shadow people from various departments such as Actuarial, Proposal, Product Development, Quoting, Claims, and Sales. My internship was extended past the summer program, currently I quote and renew New York State Disability and participate in different analysis projects that come up such as price comparison to competitors.
