Majoring in Human Services
Springfield College, Class of 2016
From Worcester, MA
Hello everyone here is a little information about me. I was born and raised in NY. I come from a very large family there was a totally of 29 children my mother delivered 13 with 10 surviving and 7 years ago we lost a sister. I have sister's and brothers all over Some in Texas, New Orleans and as I speak of New Orleans I have lost a brother, uncle and a few cousins during the katraina hurricane. I have a brother in Florida, Virginia, North Carolina,Mississippi. New York,Rode Island,Boston My mother was born and raised in North Carolina and my father from New Orleans. My father had 3 separate family's. My mother was half Indian and Jamaican. My father was Creole and Jamaican. I grew in a household with my mother and step father with 8 children in a 2 bedroom house and it was awesome! My mother had our lives all planned out for what and who we all were going to be and do when we grow up some did and some didn't. Like me for example I was suppose to be the nurse in the family because I was always taking care of someone. I did start out that way but I couldn't handle the blood and needles. I grew up had 3 children of my own and decided to leave NY when my daughter was born the baby of the three. I came for a visit to my brother's home and decided to stay with 900 dollars in my pocket two weeks later I found a place of my own not knowing anyone except my brother.I volunteered at a non-profit organization that's where I found out what my mother wanted me to be all along. A care taker not nursing folks back to health in a hospital environment. But a care taker in a different matter. Which is servicing others needs. The community the family that surrounds my well being. As I worked years trying to service my community I always said to myself when my children finished school I was going back. I truly never thought it was going to happen. Until I lost my job and my mother passed away and fell into depression and my mother came to me and said get up and think about your life and I made the phone call and here I'm. Starting school with all of starting a new journey in my life. I will say I'm nervous and scared but I'm here. There is more but you have to wait for the book. With all that said I worked in the past in non-profits and at the UMASS hospital in worcester. I was the hospital operations supervisor for about 61/2 year for the clinical engineering department. I overseen a staff of 29. I strive to promote the prevention of the infection control compliance. Which lead to patient safety and ultimately nursing satisfaction. Which lead me to frequent Vista on hospital floors to interact with nurse managers. I'm very proud of my accomplishments. I believe if you empower people you can accomplish anything! Interests My interest are I love to act, sing in church choir, do koreoke, writing and reading. Through all relaxing with some good music with a nice glass of Hennessey
