January, 06 2022 - Verified by Plymouth State UniversityAs an intern at KAS, I gained lots of laboratory experience. During my first summer, I completed various tasks for the organic volatiles labs, microbiology food lab, metal prep lab, PFAS lab, and the wet chemistry lab. My second summer was focused in the metal prep and analysis labs. Everyday I would prepare samples of various matrixes, batch spikes, and batch blanks for digestions. I performed EPA digestions for heavy metals and mercury. I was also responsible for calibrating laboratory instruments.
For the past few summers, I have been a counselor at my city's summer camp program working with ages 4-9. While this job can be very fun and rewarding, it also requires a lot of responsibility. The constant priority is keeping campers and other staff safe while also planning and leading sports and craft activities to keep each day new and interesting. The position also requires problem-solving, which can range from handling an argument to an issue that arises while on a field trip. I work a full-time position in the summer and a part-time position at after-school care.
