August, 09 2018 - Verified by University at AlbanyThe New York State Mesonet (NYSM; http://nysmesonet.org) is designed to measure routine weather observations at 125 stations across the state, capturing weather phenomenon typically 10 km or greater in horizontal scale. All data are transmitted in real-time to a central facility located at UAlbany, quality-controlled, and then processed into files which are then disseminated to customers for use in forecasting and decision-making. NYSM is designed, implemented and operated by scientists at UAlbany with support from the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
The Institute for Health and the Environment is an interdisciplinary research and training institute of the University at Albany that reports directly to the Vice President for Research. Dr. David Carpenter is the Institutes director. The goal of the Institute is to promote interdisciplinary research among the faculty in the various schools and colleges of the University, with a special focus on international activities. In 2011 the Institute received designation by the World Health Organization as a Collaborating Centre in Environmental Health.
