Majoring in Mental Health Counseling, Minoring in Addiction
Southern New Hampshire University, Class of 2027
From Lexington, KY
I was a pretty good kid through school, I graduated high school and started going to college. I had my son and a year later I was introduced to drugs. My entire life changed, my world was upside down and at first, I didn't even realize what I was getting myself into. I struggled with addiction for roughly ten years, going in and out of jail, and losing everything, including my dignity. I went to jail on some pretty big charges and I was scared this time. I got out and put myself into a rehab program. The judge granted me probation and I completed the program. At this time I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I want to help others who are struggling with addiction. I just graduated from Southern New Hampshire Univeristy with honors and successfully obtained my bachelor's degree. I start University of Kentucky in August this year to begin working on my masters degree for counselor education to become a mental health counselor. I currently have 4.5 years sober and I have three of my kids back home with me full-time.
