This position is my student teaching position. The schedule is as follows- first two weeks of introduction to school and students, three weeks of partial teaching (slowly adding in teaching more classes), five weeks of full time teaching, and two weeks of partial teaching (slowly dropping off classes after full time teaching) with observations of other classes. I am also working on submission of edTPA for social studies during this time. I have also been a part of parent-teacher conferences, high impact curriculum meetings, PLC meetings for both ELA and social studies, NC check-ins, and will be proctoring for the EOGs for my classes at the beginning of June (2018). I also have extensive experience working with Thinkpad laptops and other classroom technology including: smartboards, projectors, document cameras, Google Classroom, Padlet, Peardeck, Flipgrid, Newsela, Google Forms, Canvas, and Powerschool.
As a teacher at WDA, I am teaching two beginner hip-hop classes. The ages range from 6-13 years old. The youngest are in one class and the oldest are in the second class. I also took dance here for 13 years before I became a teacher in my junior year of college.
Barnardsville Elementary's mission is to provide a caring, safe and stimulating environment with high expectations that fosters confident, self-directed, life-long learners. Barnardsville Elementary has a 75.3% free and reduced lunch percentage so the majority of the students there are at or below the poverty level. In a capacity building role, the student will update and improve the efficiency of tracking volunteer hours; plan and implement the year-end volunteer celebration; and create a parent survey with the goal to increase parental involvement. This position does not displace paid employees.
In my second summer working at Barnardsville Elementary, I helped create a math program for the second grade classes that involved cutting, laminating, and organizing materials. I also worked with students in the second and fourth grade classes with reading and EOG practice. I also helped organize the book room, helped reorder the library, proctor during the EOG tests, and participated in field day and the fourth grade kickball game at the end of the school year.
Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont, Inc. is a registered 501 (3) organization. Girl Scouts is a preeminent non-profit organization dedicated solely to girlsall girlswhere, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. The Girl Scout Leader develops and facilitates activities for community at-risk girls to help them earn skill badges that demonstrate the scout's personal development and community-building activities. Capacity building roles include developing curriculum for new or existing programs, developing new training modules, and managing social media.
As a troop leader at Mars Hill Elementary's chapter of the Girl Scouts, I worked with the juniors to help them earn badges. I also worked with the girls to sell Girl Scout cookies on the campus of Mars Hill University. Along with the other troop leaders, I helped teach the entire troop the Girl Scout pledge and the Girls Scout promise.
The Lord's Harvest, a feeding program, packages and distributes food products to the underserved in Madison County. The Lord's Harvest concentrates their efforts by providing potatoes, pinto beans, and corn meal to the hungry year round. The Lords Harvest coordinates with Beacon of Hope, Neighbors in Need, Hot Springs, and Spring Creek distribution points. Cornmeal, pintos and potatoes are also provided to the Madison County Department of Social Services and given out at a monthly Community food distribution sponsored by Mars Hill Baptist Church. Capacity building opportunities for the Program Support Assistant include recruiting community and student volunteers, assisting with program coordination and management as well as promoting the services they provide. The student will also assist with the packaging and distribution of food. Anyone is eligible to receive supplies regardless of religious or non-religious affiliation and the students are not involved in proselytizing.
With my job at The Lord's Harvest, I was the sole person in charge of the organization and packing of the food stored at Mars Hill Baptist Church. I organized the food in the rooms at the church and packed boxes both by myself and with others. In my time with The Lord's Harvest, I was involved with the packing of 1,500+ boxes of food that went out into the community. I also had opportunities to work with children and educate them about the poverty in their own community. The couple that runs The Lord's Harvest, Bill and Sharon Welsch, were also featured on WLOS ABC 13 as the persons of the week in the spring of 2016 and I participated in the filming of that TV segment.

As an academic support assistant at Barnardsville, I helped prepare for the volunteer celebration at the end of the school year and for the 4th grade dance. I also put together academic activities for the Title 1 program and helped organize the Title 1 books. I also had the opportunity to tutor some students and proctor during the EOG tests.
The YMCA, a non-profit organization, offers 4 & 5 star-rated, licensed programs designed for ages 5-12 that is based on the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The after-school site leaders will be at the North Buncombe Elementary location in Weaverville, NC. The leaders will provide academic assistance, help implement lesson plans and create and run clubs, which are groups of students who do specific activities that are centered around a certain theme for a month. At least 50% of the after-school participants are on free or reduced lunches.
As an after-school site leader, I worked with the older group of students, from fourth to sixth grade. I tutored these students, helped them with their homework, played games with them, and did educational activities with them.
