June, 11 2018 - Iowa State UniversityIn 2018 I returned to Kemin's Animal Health and Nutrition marketing team this time centering on enhancing their social media presence and helping to spread the Kemin brand. I focused on developing their Twitter and Linkedin pages, building shared scientific and informational content and improving engagement within the agriculture community. I also worked with our external advertising firm to develop a brochure that provided information on who Kemin Animal Health and Nutrition is and their impact and dedication to agriculture.
I began my internship with Kemin Industries with their Animal Health & Nutrition marketing team in the summer of 2017. I was tasked with preparing market evaluations and the development of a strategic platform for the acquisition of a distributor in Canada and the launch of Kemin Canada the following January 2018. For this For this, I conducted market research across various species and areas within the agriculture industry of Canada. I worked across the French and English language barrier to gather and organize media opportunities for advertising in Canada as well as prepared information on trade show possibilities. I then traveled to Quebec where I presented my work to representatives of sales and marketing from both the US and Canada teams.
Cedarwood Cattle Company is a foundation Simmental cow-calf herd owned by my father and I in Huxley, Iowa. All of our cow began as 4-H heifer projects that I took to the county fair which we decided to keep and breed. I manage by time between school, work and taking care of the herd. I am share the responsibilities of health, reproduction and nutrition with my father and we work in partnership when concerning business decisions such as culling the herd and the sale of calves.
I feel that my participation in hands on animal husbandry is vital to my professional and personal success. Through this herd I have gained hands on knowledge and experience that greatly helps me to connect with other producers and truly understand what producers go through on a daily basis. This ability gives me a unique skill in the world of marketing in agribusiness because I am able to better understand the needs and wants of a producer.
Managing and operating a cattle herd, though small, is something I personally love doing as well and allows me to feel gratified that I am helping to feed an ever growing world population.
