Carla Dillon

Majored in Biological Sciences
Miami University , Class of 2018
From Chula Vista, California
I am a middle school science teacher in Southern California, graduate student, devoted mother of two under two, and proficient multitasker. I have been teaching for 5 years at a Title I school and have incorporated NGSS from the very beginning. Using these standards has pushed me to incorporate aspects of inquiry in the curriculum and plan dynamic lessons that allow students to practice scientific skills. Through my work with the AIP program I have crafted and implemented inquiry-based lessons that have led students into considering conservation principles and environmental stewardship. My ultimate goal is to embed these principles of conservancy and stewardship into every lesson associated with an NGSS standard in the curriculum taught in 7th grade as I truly believe there is a niche in every bit of science curriculum that can implement the consideration of human practices and associated impact on natural systems, as well as the mitigation of environmental problems.
