Volunteer at New York Road Runners
Every year since high school, I have volunteered at the finish line of the NYC Marathon. My main responsibility before I entered medical school was to triage the runners, or determine the extent of their injuries. My experience with the NYC Marathon makes me familiar with the triage system. Other responsibilities consist of bringing the runners food, water, gatorade, blankets, and any other simple needs.
As a medical student, I am responsible for taking the patient's history, vitals, and treating any acute injuries that do not require the assistance of an attending physician.
