Cathy Wilcox

Asst Professor - Molecular Bio, Molecular Biology at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine
From South Gibson
I am a science educator with teaching experience at the high school, graduate and postgraduate levels. My current position, as small group facilitator in Case-Based Learning, makes use of my training in the basic sciences. In the past, I have contributed to scientific research in several areas, with a focus on transcription regulation. Two projects concerned analysis of promoter regulation of collagenase in myometrial smooth muscle cells and BRCA1 in ovarian cancer cells. Another investigated the function of the highly conserved transcription regulator and prolyl isomerase, Ess1, in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Bakers yeast). A third used microarray technology to analyze the genes regulated by progesterone in normal ovarian surface epithelial cells. In addition to my efforts at the School of Medicine, I am very involved in my local church and am currently a student in the Master of Arts in Ministry program at the Drew University Theological Seminary. Both my work and my vocation provide opportunities to serve members of my community and the larger world. Specialties: molecular biology bench techniques for protein, RNA and DNA isolation and analysis, yeast genetics, public speaking, teaching.
