Chelsea Hahn

Hello, I'm Chelsea! I am currently a junior at The College of New Jersey as a Secondary Education English dual major with a Women and Gender Studies minor. Education and English are two subjects that I have always been extremely passionate about, and TCNJ has really allowed me to thrive in these fields. Thus far in my student career, I have been able to get quite a lot of experience with teaching. In high school, I completed my Senior Experience in which I volunteered at a Fisher Middle School. I spent the year there with one of my old reading teachers and helped her in the classroom. My responsibilities included the following: grading, copying, assisting students with their work, and teaching two lessons (one review and one about journalism writing). This was my first real taste of teaching. Once I transferred from Drexel to TCNJ, I was met with even more opportunities in education. First, I spent a few days observing at Hopewell Valley Regional High School. I observed student behavior, school climate, and classroom management. The following year, I spent a semester working with the CCS students at TCNJ; these are peers with special needs who attend TCNJ. I acted as a mentor and participated in their class helping them with their assignments and activities. When my junior year finally came around, I completed my Junior Field Experience (JFE). I spent the semester at Community Middle School in West Windsor in a seventh grade English classroom. First, I spent roughly two months observing, getting to know the students, and helping out around the classroom (much like my experience at Fisher). After those two months, I taught a ten day unit on the novel "The Giver." I plan to take the Praxis this summer (2015). Next semester, Fall 2015, I will be student teaching full-time. I am currently awaiting my placement. Upon graduating in 2016 with my Bachelor's Degree, I will be going on to the Masters program at TCNJ to attain my Masters Degree in English (2017).
