Carol Smith

Chief Information Officer, Information Services at DePauw University
Carol L. Smith has more than three decades of experience in IT. Currently as CIO at DePauw University, Smith leads IT strategic planning and technology to support the mission and vision of the institution. She is a member of the university senior administration, collaborates with institutional leadership across the university, and leads a team of professionals whose expertise ranges across instructional technology, administrative systems, infrastructure, desktop and user support, and related IT services. She also provides oversight for the Information Technology Associates Program, a distinctive program where DePauw students expand their technology and professional skills through authentic on-campus internships. Smith has a BA in Computer Science and English Literature from DePauw and an MS in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University. Prior to DePauw, she spent two years as a software engineer in an Indianapolis firm that designs radiation monitors for the nuclear power industry and six years as national research database coordinator in the Molecular and Medical Genetics Department at Indiana University. Smith is a frequent presenter and active volunteer in several organizations, including EDUCAUSE, the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC), the Higher Education Systems & Services Consortium (HESS), and the Independent Colleges of Indiana, among others.
