Lost in the Woods: SOS
Title: Lost in the Woods: SOS Material: Acrylic Paint on Canvas Board Size: 8 x 10 Year Created: 2018 When first developing this idea, I started with a scratch pad of vertical lines that, to me, looked like a forest in which someone could easily get lost. Jokingly, I wrote horizontally across the image with an alternating pattern of three dots and three dashes. That translated in to Morse Code is “SOS”, a well-known distress call.

Flour Sack
My animated flour sack. Inspired by Loony Tunes Episode with Wil E. Coyote (original at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWiYah08buI ). The Coyote gets an industrial Acme spring in order to launch himself faster to catch the Road Runner. In the cartoon, after the spring is set and released, instead of shooting the coyote forward, it just extends and the Coyote gets engulfed in the coil. In my animation, using the same background from the cartoon, the flour sack shyly enters the frame, notices the spring, and is excited to see it. He compresses the spring, loads himself on it, and the spring successfully launches the flour bag our of the screen. Altogether, these 9 seconds of animation took about 9 hours to complete.

Kindred: PQRST - Live, Life, Learn, Love
Kindred: PQRST - Live, Life, Learn, Love Material: Acrylic Paint on Canvas Board Size: 8 x 10 Year Created: 2018 The piece I developed is of four different types of heartbeats (Normal, Fast, Slow, and Irregular) against a red background, symbolic of the heart, love, passion, anger, and frustration.  Placed over each type of heartbeat, in Morse Code, is & "PQRST"; (the measurements for sinus rhythm in our heartbeats) followed by the words Live, Life, Learn, and Love to best match the corresponding heartbeat.  My favorite is the last heartbeat, the irregular heartbeat that "skips a beat"; which best corresponds with "love".
