General Practice Communities Field Placement
I participated in a group assignment with Grow Windham, where we were set with a task of generating a survey that would inquire knowledge and feelings about Lauter Park and the many attractions it is home too, including the community gardens by Grow Windham and also WAIM. The survey would allow our group to form an understanding of the usage of Lauter Park, residents knowledge on the park itself and the numerous attractions it is home to such as; the splash park, skate and bike park, grilling area, the river, sport fields, and lastly the community gardens. As the Liaison of my group, I finalized the survey and had a set goal of about 100(+) participants, in hopes of reaching not only English-speaking respondents, but also Spanish-speaking respondents. Our results consisted of 131 respondents and many were interested in participating in the community garden including renting a plot in the garden, along many intriguing ideas on how to improve the usage of the park. Some people knew about the park and the availability of it, but it was also shown that many werent aware of the park itself. Some of the activities that take place currently are recreational activities such as sport games and family events. Most citizens were interested in seeing more structured family activities such as summer camps, music events (concerts), or even group events like arts and crafts, or movie nights. We hoped that each of these results can help with providing more resources to the residents of Willimantic.
