The Alfred J. Wright Foreign Language Award is given annually to one or more seniors who have completed an outstanding thesis in a foreign language, from a fund endowed by Professor Alfred J. Wright, a member of the faculty from 1956 to 1984. The seniors are chosen by a committee of foreign language faculty.

Bobcat Ventures provides a space at Bates where entrepreneurship can thrive. By hosting an annual pitch competition, we hope to build a bridge between our liberal arts education with the expanding industry of entrepreneurship in order to put theory into application. Through offering consulting, project management, and networking resources to teams, Bobcat Ventures advances entrepreneurial development.

Responsibilities:
Applied research methods to evaluate emerging AI, cybersecurity, alternative energy, and defense markets and technological innovation capabilities. Evaluated future congressional budget authorization and appropriations to evaluate risk. Produced market research proposals on emerging cybersecurity, AI, and defense technologies. Formulated comprehensive datasets and graphical data analysis for client proposals. Utilized balance sheets to evaluate business performance and construct pro forma statements. Actively used written and verbal communication skills to present data and information.

Accomplishments:
Researched defense capabilities on two emerging technologies that assisted bringing two new clients to the firm. Constructed, cleaned, and analyzed data to predict the 2018 midterm elections for defense committee analysis. Attended congressional roundtables with defense and FinTech industry leaders to discuss technological innovations and capabilities. Provided analysis and interpretation used in reports, projects, and client proposals.

Skills Used:
An understanding of analytic tools through Microsoft Excel to clean, interpret, and organize data. Advanced oral and written communication skills were tools used to discuss capability and applications of complex technologies and innovation. Time management was a critical skill used to produce project reports on time for clients. Data driven analysis was used heavily to produce predictive models.

Responsibilities:

Produced customer preference reports based on data. Responsible for data collection methods including survey and email tracking. Exercised management over inventory, philanthropic giving, and cider house sales. Focused in sales to expand account management capabilities. Worked with wholesalers to ensure brand awareness and marketing was brought to the fore-front.

Accomplishments:

Outlined specific efficiencies for using a periodic inventory system. Managed one account relationship to expand in-store real estate. Provided speedy customer service to manage and distribute inventory and product to over 30 special events throughout the summer. Expanded Downeasts market presence in the Massachusetts North Shore territory through real estate negotiation with accounts.

Skills Used:

Negotiation and customer relation skills were heavily exercised within my position. Operation of Square and Shopify inventory tracking systems were actively utilized. Superior Excel spreadsheet analysis and graphical analysis skills were pertinent.
