Hello everyone! My name is Emma Thyne, and I am a sophomore at the University of Kentucky majoring in Political Science with a minor in Spanish. My current focus as a Chellgren Fellow is undergraduate research, specifically regarding gender and diplomacy. I am also the Vice President of the Political Science Honors Society Pi Sigma Alpha. Through this, I plan and hold events to build community within the Political Science major. In the past, I interned for Beshears gubernatorial campaign and the Kentucky Senate Minority Leadership office. My interests are wide-ranging, from law and academia to diplomacy and research. I hope to explore these interests through the help of internships, studying abroad, and undergraduate research opportunities.

Emma Thyne was recognized for an accomplishment

During the summer of 2022, I received a grant through the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship to create an original research project with the ultimate goal of learning about the research process. Through this, I gained a deep understanding of gender and politics literature, outlined the front end of a manuscript with a comprehensive theory of my own, and presented it at the University of Kentucky Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Pi Sigma Alpha

In fall 2021, four other talented peers and I revived our university's chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science Honors Society. We are dedicated to building community within the Political Science major; facilitating mentorship between faculty, students, and alumni; and providing new career opportunities to our members.
