Fahad Tariq Vora

Majored in Mechanical Engineering
Georgia Institute of Technology, Class of 2017
From Pune, India
I am a Graduate Mechanical Engineering student at Georgia Institute of Technology, currently working as a Research Assistant at Georgia Tech Research Institute. I worked for Electrolux Major Appliances for one semester as a Cost-Out Co-op and for two semesters as the Top Freezer Architecture Co-op. During my time at Electrolux, I handled supplier change projects, introduced alternative solution to brazing for sealing tube joints, led a team of 12 Co-ops for 2 semesters, designed a part to make top freezer refrigerators robust to high temperature and high humidity conditions ($4.4 million annual savings in service calls, US Patent Pending), redesigned low pressure side components to prevent frost and ice build-up in the freezer, performed Design of Experiments (DOE) for cabinet deformation analysis. Recently, I've been involved in extensive research on campus in the piezoelectric energy harvesting domain, specifically, structural vibration damping using shunting circuits and ambient energy harvesting using meta materials. For Capstone Design at Tech, I am leading a team of 6 students on a joint collaboration of NASA KSC and GTRI to develop a piezoelectric based indoor floor sensing system to monitor patient fall in hospitals and also for general information gathering. I have participated in the Oxford Study Abroad Program from Tech, in which I toured and took classes in 11 different cities in Europe and spent 6 weeks in Worcester College, Oxford. I also participated in an exchange program at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where I focused on learning about cutting edge additive manufacturing technologies. My colleagues and friends would describe me as a strong team player. I easily identify people's strengths and weaknesses and I am able to successfully get others to perform at their maximum potential by taking initiative. I am looking for full-time job opportunities and can be reached via email or this phone number: 4045475589.

Graduate Research Assistant at Georgia Tech Research Institute
Working on piezoelectric effect based indoor and outdoor sensing and energy harvesting applications. The applications include foot-traffic monitoring to improve design of buildings, send wireless notifications in case of a human fall event in hospitals or elderly homes, understand consumer behavior in retail stores, etc.
January 2017 - Present
Undergraduate Research Assistant, Smart Structures and Dynamic Systems Laboratory at Georgia Institute of Technology
Experimented with piezo-ceramic patches on cantilever beams in vacuum and damping of structural vibrations using non-linear shunting circuits. Also worked on experimentation involving vibration energy focusing and harvesting using piezoelectric elements that led to the draft of an IEEE SENSORS 2016 conference paper which was accepted and is to be presented on November 2nd, 2016.
June 2016 - Present
