Biofuels TS Plant Support Intern at Novozymes
• Developed laboratory techniques and trends centered around the liquefaction and fermentation of corn starch for the production of ethanol. • Proficient in the use and troubleshooting involved with the the Agilent HPLC model. • Organized multiple, concurrent lab experiments in order to maximize efficiency and to address current ethanol plant clientele’s problems and concerns.
August 2016 - Present
Student Intern with the Iowa Grain Quality Initiative at Iowa State University
• Conducted a sensitivity analysis on a Mass Balance Dry-Grind Ethanol Model. o Verified that the model gave logical, responsive outputs across the combinations and debugged situations that do not seem to make sense. o Once the proximate analysis factors were working, I then checked the amino acid profile to see how it transferred from corn to DDGS. Assuming no contribution of the yeast. o Verified that the profile, being the ratio of protein to the ratio of lysine, transferred from IGQI corn profiles. o Validated the carry through of the proximate analysis into DDGS into the valuation of swine feed, using a standard corn, soybean meal and DDGS diet. • Participated in various industry conferences to gain familiarity with industry and current industry. issues • Performed one NIR instrument calibration - which provided an understand of instrument validation for simulated results.
May 2016 - August 2016
Lab Technician with the Grain Quality Lab at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach
• Collaborated with other student technicians to create dry-grind grain models on NIR instrumentation • Analyzed wheat, DDGS, soybean and corn samples to obtain compositional data
September 2015 - April 2016
