George Sturges

I have been on the team for three years now. My first year consisted mostly of learning machining and CAD software (SolidWorks). During my second year, I was a co-lead of the brakes system. Over the course of that year, we performed a complete thermal and mechanical analysis of the car's brake rotors, creating a one-lap thermal simulation using ANSYS and using SolidWorks FEA software to optimize the rotor designs. We also oversaw caliper and brake line selection and positioning within the car. At FSAE Michigan, the team placed 73rd out of 114 teams total, a new best for our team. This year, I am working under a system lead in a two-person team on the chassis system. This includes modelling the entire system and overseeing integration of all other attached systems. Lehigh runs a steel space frame chassis; our goals are to optimize for weight, ergonomics, and rigidity while conforming to Lehigh FSAE's niche as a cost-effective lightweight vehicle.
