Hayden Soto

Majoring in Sign Language Interpreter
William Woods University, Class of 2020
From Allentown, PA
Thank you for visiting my page! I'm Hayden Soto, a man of many hats for every briefcase. My main focus is on being the best Transaction Coordinator/ Administrative Assistant in the Real Estate industry. My repertoire, however, expands a little further than that. I'm also a multilingual interpreter for Spanish, English, and American Sign Language (Italian and Japanese coming soon once I complete my BS focused in Sign Language Interpretation and Translation from William Woods University.) I'm a licensed Notary Public and freelance artist. I do acrylic paintings and murals about my Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian mixed heritage as well as sculptures and dioramas. In my spare time, I'm also an intersex activist in my community that writes and performs poetry on stage on educating others and highlighting the experiences for those born with a variant sexual anatomy. Although this may seem scattered, in essence, I am a person for the people, whether it's helping others get their dream-home or place of business, being the bridge of communication for Latinos, Hispanics, and Deaf or deafblind people, or fighting the stigma for those who are born different using art, I have a drive to be there to make a difference.

Pride Club and Community Service
As the president of the Pride Club, my duties were to bring together the members of my local LGBTI community and educate them on topics about sexuality and identity that they would otherwise feel ashamed to speak about among other peers. I assured there was a safe space for others to openly be themselves and connect with others alike. After leaving LCC, some community work and activism I've continued to spread include writing and performing queer poetry on the topic of intersex, transgender, and gay perspective. As someone who was born with a difference in sexual anatomy, I've seen first hand the discrimination and the lack of knowledge within the medical community and the outside world has towards people who don't fit in the standard definition of what is male or female. I believe strongly in people's right to make their decision and have their bodily autonomy respected and feel that if people were more aware of the diversity of our bodies, then the surrounding stigma around variant romantic and identity preferences would be more easily accepted and understood. Attached is a video of part of my community work completed together with the Basement Poetry at the Bradbury-Sulivan Center for LGBT youth. https://www.facebook.com/BasementPoems/?eid=ARC8IrqRAFlGMBAStgwVI9dpPwd7lH_8KWAExjoTFSHfZrBzVHF5-47NQIwwyt2V31biYhk_Udxf451h

Deaf Literature Article Review
Stylistic Features of American Sign Language are often overlooked. Although the language is unique in its own right, it's often misjudged as being another format for spoken English. The article that was being analyzed challenges that misconception and I overview what impact that has on the acceptance and progression of Deaf Literature.
