I have been there for over 10 years and love sharing my culture and language daily as I teach my students authentically from the heart. It is a very unique style of teaching that has proven to be very effective and beneficial.
Here were my responsibilities:
Language Instruction Teach French exclusively in the target language to develop students proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Curriculum Development Design and adapt lesson plans to align with language immersion methodologies and educational standards.
Classroom Management Create a structured and engaging learning environment that fosters language acquisition and student participation.
Differentiated Instruction Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate various learning styles and proficiency levels within the classroom.
Assessment & Feedback Regularly assess students language progress through formative and summative evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Cultural Integration Incorporate Francophone cultures, traditions, and history into lessons to enhance students cultural awareness and global perspective.
Collaboration with Colleagues Work with other immersion teachers, general education teachers, and administrators to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
Parent Communication Maintain open communication with parents about students progress, challenges, and ways to support language learning at home.
Classroom Immersion Strategies Use songs, games, role-play, and hands-on activities to promote natural language acquisition.
Professional Development Stay updated on best practices in language immersion education by attending workshops, conferences, and collaborating with peers.
Language & Communication Support Provide real-time translation for parents, students, and staff during meetings, conferences, and school events to ensure clear communication.
Parent & Community Engagement Facilitate communication between the school and non-English-speaking families, helping them navigate enrollment, school policies, and academic expectations.
Student Advocacy Support refugee and immigrant students by helping them adjust to the school system, addressing their social-emotional needs, and connecting them with available resources.
Cultural Mediation Educate staff and students on cultural differences to promote an inclusive and welcoming school environment.
Resource Coordination Collaborate with local organizations and social services to provide refugee and immigrant families with access to housing, healthcare, and legal aid.
Crisis Intervention & Support Assist families during emergencies by providing translation services and connecting them with appropriate support systems.
