Gratefully awarded one of the 10 spots available for the Birla Carbon Scholar program that allows further dedication to current research and exposure of work at the Birla Carbon Symposium. Unfortunately, I had to decline my acceptance of the reward due to losses in the family and resulting family matters.

Differential Analysis of Individual Centruroides vittatus Venom
Isabella Batallas, C. Neal McReynold, Kelci Knight, Whitney Smith, Thomas McElroy and Eric A. Albrecht: Centruroides vittatus scorpions were delivered to me to be fed, measured, and weighed before being housed individually and watered daily, as well as fed Acheta domesticus (crickets). After 4 months of living in these controlled environmental conditions, extraction of their venom began. I resourcefully had to prepare a structured method for extracting the scorpions’ venom and once collected, I ran very careful and tedious tests, such as protein estimation and SDS-PAGE. My research is comparing mature individual scorpions, and separately, comparing pooled scorpions of different grouped sizes to determine if there are additional reasons to venom variation besides the environmental factors I controlled.

Binary Classification Modeling Deliverable: Determining Credit Distribution Through Logistic Regression
The goal of this report was to create a model to score credit risk for sub-prime lenders using a binary logistic regression model. The datasets used consisted of sub-prime borrowers, meaning borrowers with a higher risk of default or low credit score. The two datasets utilized were CPR with 1,444,562 observations and 339 variables and PERF with 17,244,104 observations and 18 variables. The CPR variables will be used to determine the borrower’s credit risk score while the PERF dataset provides the post-hoc information on the borrower. SAS, primarily, and RStudio was used. The model was created through three major steps: Data Discovery, Variable Preparation, and Modeling.
