We created our own step squad, choreography, and costumes, made mixtapes for the music. Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. Stepping is based on a long and rich tradition in African-based communities that use movement, words and sounds to communicate allegiance to a group.
